Vertebral arteriovenous fistula: an unusual complication of Swan-Ganz catheter insertion.

چکیده
The leading causes of trauma to the major craniocerebral vessels include penetrating and non penetrating trauma [1 , 2]. Because the vertebral artery is confined to the incomplete bony canal formed by the successive foramina in the transverse processes of the upper cervical vertebrae, it is less susceptible to penetrating injury than is the carotid artery [2]. A review of the literature has uncovered no previous examples of pseudoaneurysm or arteriovenous fistula specifically involving the vertebral artery as a complication of percutaneous internal jugular vein cannulation [3, 4]. We describe

Hepatic vein obstruction due to Swan-Ganz catheter placement.
Complications from Swan-Ganz catheters during insertion, long-term placement, or removal have been known since its development. I describe the unusual presentation of a pacing Swan-Ganz catheter mispositioned into the hepatic vein producing vascular obstruction, yet with adequate cardiac pacing.
متن کاملA potentially serious complication with Swan-Ganz catheter placement by the percutaneous internal jugular route.
Percutaneous insertion of a Swan-Ganz catheter through the internal jugular vein is presumed to have resulted in lodgement of the catheter tip in the wall of the internal carotid artery.

Dear Editor, Pulmonary artery catheter is widely used in cardiovascular surgical practice. Various complications of the Swan-Ganz catheter during insertion, its long-term placement, or removal are well known since its introduction.1-5 Herein, we report a case of the inadvertent fracture of an entrapped Swan-Ganz catheter during its attempted removal with moderate external traction. A 36-year-ol...
متن کاملStent-Graft Treatment of Iatrogenic Vertebral Artery Pseudoaneurysm and Arteriovenous Fistula
Very rare incidence of vertebral artery pseudoaneurysm as a complication caused by central venous catheterization has been reported. The treatment strategy is dependent on location, anatomic structure and coexisting vascular injuries. The Stent-graft placement was performed in a 69-year-old woman who underwent Hemo-Cath® insertion for emergent hemodialysis complicated with right vertebral arter...
متن کاملFemoral Arteriovenous Fistula Associated With Leg Swelling 6 Months After Removal of a Hemodialysis Catheter: A Case Report.
Double-lumen catheters have been used widely to obtain temporary access in patients who are in need of acute hemodialysis (HD) because of acute renal failure. Several complications are associated with the insertion of these catheters, including bleeding, infection, injuries to arteries, and deep venous thrombosis. An arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is a rare but significant complication following c...
